Bruce Lee

November 27, 1940 - July 20, 1973

THE American, Bruce Lee ~ was a martial artist, philosopher, instructor, martial arts actor and the founder of the martial arts style - Jeet Kune Do. Bruce is widely regarded as a cultural icon and the most influential martial artist of the twentieth century.

Bruce Lee's Chinese name was - Lee Jun Fan. He was born in the hour of the dragon, between 6-8 a.m., in the Year of the Dragon according to the Chinese zodiac calendar, November 27, 1940. He was born at the Chinese Hospital in San Francisco's Chinatown in the United States. His father, Lee Hoi-Chuen, was Chinese. Bruce's mother, Grace, was Catholic and of Chinese and German ancestry. Bruce and his parents returned to Hong Kong when he was three months old. He was a United States citizen by birth and did not hold citizenship in any other county.

Surrounding Lee, there are a number of stories still repeated in Hong Kong culture today. One is that his early 70s interview on the TVB show, "Enjoy Yourself Tonight" cleared the busy streets of Hong Kong­ as everyone was watching the interview at home!

Bruce's thoughts: Don't neglect life by worrying about death.

- I don't know what is the meaning of death, but I am not afraid to die - and I go on, non-stop, going forward [with life]. Even though I, Bruce Lee, may die some day without fulfilling all of my ambitions, I will have no regrets. I did what I wanted to do and what I've done, I've done with sincerity and to the best of my ability. You can't expect much more from life.

Bruce's thoughts: The end is the beginning.

- The beginning and the end thus turn into next-door neighbors. On the musical scale, one may start with the lowest pitch and gradually ascend to the highest. When the highest is reached one finds it is located next to the lowest. To know, but to be as though not knowing, is the height of wisdom.
