Campfire Tall Tales

I live on Long Island, NY. I have my doubts about Camp Hero and Montauk Project. Why Simple, I am involved with the Boy Scouts and we have used Camp hero for several years unrestricted. I have explored most of the base from high ground to low, even found an entrance unblocked and ventured down as far as possible before the water lever was too high. Yes there is water in the tunnels not to keep people out but for lack of the pumping stations working.

You will read many stories about someone being stopped by an un-uniformed guard. Fact do to the remoteness of parts of the property several people grew weed (marijuana) there and were protecting their crop. Now the Parks Department has put a stop to most of that. Another thing at Camp Hero is a game called geocaching, there are numerous caches hidden there. In fact if you go to the geocaching web site there are lots of pictures from Camp Hero with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts with the cache. Never once was I or any other Scout told to leave an area.

For a time the Parks Department closed areas for public safety, hazard growth, crumbling concrete from the existing structures etc. There was a giant effort on-going to open all of Camp Hero in fact some Scouts used Camp Hero cleanup project as part of their Eagle requirements. Let’s put this all to bed it makes a fun story but just not true. In fact in the book "Montauk - Experiments in time" several facts are wrong i.e. the Cray I was an 8 bit computer introduced in the 70's and the IBM 360 was also 8 bit Introduced in the 80's not 32 bit as claimed in the book. Many other facts are just plain wrong.

Thanks for the campfire tall tales but let's not get carried away and think they are real.
