Boy Scouts Model New Uniforms with Designer Oscar de La Renta and Model Jerry Hall

CUB SCOUTING is part of the Scouting program of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). It is available to boys from first through fifth-grade, or 7–10 years of age and their families. Its membership is the largest of the three BSA Scouting Divisions (Cub & Boy Scouting, and Venturing). It is part of the worldwide Scouting movement and aims to promote character development, citizenship training and personal fitness. In 1930, the BSA began registering the first Cub Scout packs.

The Cub Scout follows Akela.

The Cub Scout helps the pack go.

The Cub Scout gives goodwill. Every Boy Scout a Swimmer

Cub Scout Motto

Each pack has a number of annual events such as the pinewood derby, raingutter regatta, the space derby, gold rush, the blue and gold banquet and Scout Sunday or Scout Sabbath.

Several structured camping activities are available in the Cub Scout program. The pack overnighter is a pack-organized camping activity that provides Cub Scouts with positive outdoor experiences. Cub Scout day camp or twilight camp is an accredited, organized, one to five day program for Cub Scouts using trained leadership at an approved site. It is usually held during daylight or early evening hours, but not overnight. Cub Scout resident camp is an organized, accredited overnight camping program covering at least two nights and conducted under trained leadership in an established Scout camp operated by the council. The Webelos den overnight camp introduces the boy and his parent to the camping program, under the leadership of the Webelos den leader. Joint campouts with a local Boy Scout troop for second-year Webelos can help to strengthen ties between the pack and troop and facilitate the transition from Webelos to Boy Scouts.

247,017 Tiger Cubs (Scouting introduction)

The Tiger Cub program is for first-grade (or age 7) boys and their adult partners. There are five Tiger Cub achievement areas. The Tiger Cub, working with his adult partner, completes 15 requirements within these areas to earn the Tiger Cub badge. These requirements consist of an exciting series of indoor and outdoor activities just right for a boy in the first grade.

819,882 Cub Scouts

The Bobcat is the first rank that EVERY boy MUST earn when entering the Scouting Program.

The Wolf program is for boys who have completed first grade (or are age 8). To earn the Wolf badge, a boy must pass 12 achievements involving simple physical and mental skills.

The Bear rank is for boys who have completed second grade (or are age 9). There are 24 Bear achievements in four categories. The Cub Scout must complete 12 of these to earn the Bear badge. These requirements are somewhat more difficult and challenging than those for Wolf rank.

634,962 Webelos Scouts

This program is for boys who have completed third grade (or are age 10). A boy may begin working on the Webelos badge as soon as he joins a Webelos den. This is the first step in his transition from the Webelos den to the Boy Scout troop. As he completes the requirements found in the Webelos Handbook, he will work on activity badges, attend meetings led by adults, and become familiar with the Boy Scout requirements—all leading to the Arrow of Light Award.

480,457 Pack Leaders

Several leadership positions are necessary for a Cub Scout pack to function properly and successfully.

51,077 Packs

A Pack is an organized troop having common interests.
