American Soldiers

Experience

Graniteville, South Carolina

I served with the 1221st Engineer Company from 8/2010-3/2011 in Afghanistan, Coast Province under the forward operation base named Orgun-E. Our mission of Route Clearance was in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

We were responsible for the clearance of the roads in which the Army used daily, to assure their safety while traveling to their destination. My job was to drive the RG31 clearance vehicles which also detected IED’s (improvised explosive devices).

I was responsible for the maintenance of the vehicle assigned to me as well as the safety of the soldiers riding in my vehicle. My vehicle was able to detect many types of IED’s and I was trained to destroy the bombs where found.

Our unit also performed sweep teams to locate terrorists and bomb makers using Batt/Hyde systems, night vision and other types of optics equipment. We were in direct contact with the Afghan people while doing this requiring us to work as a team so that our soldiers as well as the Afghan public were kept safe.

We used interrogation and detainment techniques and psychological effects on suspicious individuals to determine if they were responsible for the bombs on the roads.

Once we determined that they were responsible. We were responsible for processing them and releasing them over to Afghanistan authorities. While on this mission, we were required to maintain and carry an M4 rifle and an 9mm pistol, and be prepared to shoot at any time.

US Army Reserves/428th MP CO

South Bend, Indiana

I was activated as a result of 9/11 with the 428th MP Company and served with them from 10/2001-10/2002 in Killeen Texas.

My duties included reporting daily to my supervisor and/or the Provost Marshall of any problems and regular activities within my shift. I was required to provide daily written reports of personnel whereabouts, radio communications for patrol units, perimeter checks ensuring no unauthorized person(s) were within platoon area and conduct unauthorized vehicle checks. I was also responsible for dispatching police vehicles where needed as well as maintaining the vehicles and building keys.

Our mission at Fort Hood, Killeen, Texas, was to provide enforcement of security for several areas of the military base due to regular law enforcement being deployed to Afghanistan.Sabotage and espionage were at a high priority for us due to recent terrorists attacks as well as regular base operations.

We were at a high level of readiness to respond to crisis situation at all times and did neutralize several bomb attempts. We maintained strict procedures for entry and exit points of the base, which included checking id’s, searching vehicles and verifying civilian business on post.

I was responsible for safe guarding highly classified information and equipment. Also conducted scheduled and unscheduled inspections of offices, buildings, vehicles, equipment and parcels to ensure against anti-sabotage and espionage. I was also required and trained to ensure security requirements were in order for visiting dignitaries.

We qualified with our weapons every three months. We used the 9mm berretta, M16A2 and riot shot guns. We physically trained daily and tested monthly.
